Your model key

Hosted Ask and the other hosted features that call a model run on your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter, not on one RepoOps pays for. Until you add one, they say so instead of answering; everything else on repoops.ai works without a key.

How to

An account at Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter that can create an API key.

  1. Pick a provider.

Anthropic runs the same Claude models the desktop app uses. OpenAI runs GPT models. OpenRouter is one key for many models and routes to Claude by default.

  2. Create an API key in that provider's console.

    console.anthropic.com/settings/keys, platform.openai.com/api-keys or openrouter.ai/keys.

  3. Paste it into My Brain.

Open My Brain and ask a question. With no key stored, the connect panel appears where the answer would be. Choose the provider, paste the key and save.

  4. Ask again.

The answer streams as normal, and your provider bills you for it.

Use cases

Your first question

Situation
You signed in to repoops.ai, asked My Brain a question, and the panel asks for a key.
You do
Create an Anthropic key, paste it into the panel and save.
You see
The answer streams. Asking the same thing again within the memo's lifetime does not spend the key again.

Switching provider

Situation
You started on OpenRouter and want to move to Anthropic.
You do
Save an Anthropic key in the same panel.
You see
It replaces the OpenRouter key. One key is held at a time, so there is never a question about which one is spent.

Expected outcome

WorkedHosted Ask answers, and the panel shows only a mask of the key, the first six characters and the last four.
Did not workHosted Ask still asks for a key.

Next step: The key was not saved, or was removed. Paste it again in the panel on My Brain.

Did not workThe web-search connector returns nothing.

Next step: It uses a search tool only Anthropic serves, so it needs an Anthropic key specifically.

What else to consider

Yours alone

The key is stored encrypted and never read back by any page or API. It is never visible to teammates, never shared across a team, and never used for anyone else's request. Each person on a team adds their own, and a team owner has nothing extra to set.

What it is spent on

Only the request you made: your Ask, your AI entity pass, reading text out of a photo you captured, and the web-search connector sync you turned on.

Without a key

Ask returns search and source cards without a written answer. Entity chips stay based on file names. Photo capture still saves, using the caption you typed. Every read page, rollup and metric works with no key.

What is kept

A short server-side memo of a grounded answer, keyed to you and your question, so a repeat does not spend your key. It lasts 30 minutes by default, never more than 24 hours, and is dropped when your brain changes. The Privacy Policy states the current lifetime.
