Getting started

The guided walkthrough

RepoOps has a guided walkthrough in both apps. It starts from the setup checklist, visits the seven sections in order, and on each page dims everything except the part to start with: the tabs that say what the section answers, then the one control to press first. Each step links the docs page for that section and the video on it. Finishing or stopping brings you back to the checklist. This page covers starting it, moving through it, stopping and resuming, and how the local and hosted walkthroughs differ.

How to

The local app or a RepoOps team at repoops.ai. Nothing else: the walkthrough reads no data of its own, and a page with no data yet still shows the parts it points at.

  1. Start it from the checklist.

In the local app, open Setup and press Start the walkthrough on the Learn RepoOps card. In hosted RepoOps, open the Setup checklist under Workspace tools and press the same button on its Learn RepoOps card. From any page, the command palette (Ctrl K, or ⌘K on a Mac) has Start the walkthrough too. The card says Not started, Stopped at step 7, or Done, so you can see where you are.

  2. Read the step, then move on.

Each step names its section and says Step 4 of 18, or wherever you are. The page goes dim with one part cut out and ringed, and the card beside it says what that part is for. Next and Back move one step; so do the right and left arrow keys. A step on another page loads that page, and the step number travels in the address as ?wt=4, so a reload keeps your place. Tab stays inside the card while it shows.

  3. Open the docs or the video for a section.

Read the docs opens the guide for the section in a new tab, and Watch the video opens the same guide at its video. In the local app those links go to repoops.ai; in hosted RepoOps they stay on the site.

  4. Stop, and pick it up later.

Skip, or Esc, stops at the current step and takes you back to the checklist, where the card reads Stopped at step 7 of 18 and offers Resume and Start over. Resume opens the step you stopped at.

  5. Finish.

The last step's button reads Finish. It returns you to the checklist, where the card reads Done and offers Run it again.

Use cases

A new teammate on the hosted app

Situation
Someone joins your team at repoops.ai and has never seen RepoOps.
You do
Send them to the Setup checklist and have them press Start the walkthrough.
You see
They see Connections first, then two or three steps in each of the seven sections, sixteen in all, and land back on the checklist with the card reading Done.

A first run of the local app

Situation
You installed RepoOps and want to know where things are before you track a repository.
You do
Open Setup and press Start the walkthrough on the Learn RepoOps card.
You see
It starts on that card, shows where to add the repositories you work in and where to sign in, then walks the seven sections: eighteen steps, about 3 minutes.

Expected outcome

WorkedEach step rings a part of the page, and the card beside it names that part.
WorkedFinish lands on the checklist, and the Learn RepoOps card reads Done.
WorkedRead the docs and Watch the video open the section's guide in a new tab.
Did not workThe card says the part this step points at is not on this page right now.

Next step: That part is hidden until the section has data, or sits on another tab. Nothing is wrong: press Next and the walkthrough moves on.

Did not workThe card does not come back to where you stopped.

Next step: Progress is saved to your RepoOps account on repoops.ai and to the data folder in the local app, so another browser shows it too. If RepoOps did not answer when you stopped, only this browser kept it: open the checklist in this browser and press Resume. If the step card said progress is not being saved, neither kept it. Press Start the walkthrough.

Did not workOn a phone the card covers the bottom of the page.

Next step: Below 640 pixels wide the card docks to the bottom on purpose, and the ringed part scrolls to the top of the screen.

What else to consider

The steps in the local app

Eighteen steps. Setup comes first, then two steps in each section, three in Today:

  1. Setup: the Learn RepoOps card itself (this page), Track another folder (Install RepoOps) and Sign in to repoops.ai (Connect to your team).
  2. Today: the five views, Next best action, and the inbox order (Today and One incident across the seven sections).
  3. Production: the evidence tabs and Needs action (Production evidence).
  4. Attribution: the views over change records and the button that opens one (Attribution).
  5. AI Security: the tabs and the open findings (AI Security).
  6. Remediation: the tabs and Open the top case (Remediation).
  7. Cost: the tabs and Run the scan (Cost).
  8. Memory: the tabs and Ask the brain (Memory and the brain).

How hosted differs

Sixteen steps. Hosted RepoOps starts at Connections, where you connect a service or bind a desktop with a connect code, instead of the local Setup page. Today has no Next best action step, because hosted has no ranked source for it. Attribution adds a step on the Agent sessions tab: those sessions are sent by the desktops bound to your team, and capture only mode sends them from a desktop with no local dashboard. Every other step is the same in both apps.

What it stores

Four things: whether you started, stopped or finished, the step you reached, how many steps there were, and when you last moved. On repoops.ai that record is kept with your account, one per person, so the Setup checklist reads Done or Stopped on any browser you sign in from. In the local app it is a file in the desktop's data folder, shared by the app window and a browser tab on the same machine and kept when you clear the browser. Each browser also keeps a copy in its local storage, used when RepoOps does not answer; of two copies the newer wins.
